What'd you Say?

Remember that 20 question game you would play back in freshman year when you were getting to know someone? What's your favorite color? How old are you? Favorite food? and then as you guys started talking later at night, and started getting comfortable the questions changed.. how far have you gone? Send me a pic?(Usually that question left you ignoring every text after, and was an immediate red flag) Depending on the type of person you are, those silly question games back in freshman year either gave you someone great to be with or left you saying "BYE!"

But now, as juniors in high school thinking about looking towards the future, think of questions that will change your life;

What's your name? Are you single? How old are you? Will you marry me? Are you pregnant? Did you get your period? Did you use a condom? How much does that cost? Did I get the job? What college are you going to? Do you want kids? Do I have cancer? When is your due date? Did I pass my road test? Have you been drinking? Did you win? Do you love me? Did I lock the door? Did I put the candle out? WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Questions have answers. Sometimes the answer isn't always clear, but it's there and sometimes, going through the process to get the answer is the biggest issue. Questions in life pose threats to your happiness, and everything that is normal for you at that moment can come to a halt and completely turn around. Imagine you're in college, you get drunk have sex and don't remember it. You're gonna think of two questions most often "Did I use a condom? What if I'm pregnant?" Imagine the answer to the first question is no, and the second answer is yes. You're now in college, and pregnant. What are you going to do? Life changing questions like that can alter plans for the future and mess up your entire life.

Then again, think of the question "Will you marry me"; your entire life just changed. The rest of your life depends on your answer to this very question. A "yes" means you're committing yourself to one person for the rest of your life(or well that's how it starts out) and a "no" means that person isn't right for you, and you just picked a bad freaking time to tell them that. What if you don't want to and say yes? That question just screwed up not one, but two lives because now you have to deal with the situation you just put yourself in. How do you deal with that? Questions. The basis of life itself. Every answer, every question has another question along with it. What is the temperature going to be today? *70 degrees* what do I wear then? *Picks a pink shirt* does this shirt make me look okay? Society is based upon questioning, everything has a question. Who came first, the chicken or the egg? Life doesn't have just 20 important questions that could affect you, life is full of questions and the best ones really don't have answers. If one day you find yourself questioning everything, go with it! That's what makes life interesting. If everything you did had an answer, what would be the point. Weed through answers, question and re-question yourself, and yet don't think you found the right answer when you pick one, question yourself again.(Just not on tests! Go with your first instinct)

Most importantly, those questions you'll either hear or ask yourself will define who you are later on, so don't rush into making decisions but most importantly, some of those questions you really don't want to have to ask yourself, so be careful and respect yourself (:

  1. Good advice, my dear.... "don't rush into making decisions" (especially those important decisions... eeeek!). So interesting, that this blog started out as a "20 Questions" response and wandered into far more interesting areas.... :-)

  2. You are the very best. I really enjoyed reading this post, and I totally read it in your voice, which I think is so funny. So much of what you said is so true, and I think it's very important advice for people to pay attention to.
